Simone Roerade , the girl with the raunchiest laugh and warmest
vocals, toured with me for a couple of years and we had a blast.
I always enjoy listening to her beautiful voice and strong songs, and
this record is going to blow people away!

I first heard Simone Roerade with her band Hips. Her fresh, sparkling voice struck me straight into the heart. When you listen to Simone’s sound, you listen to powerful soul, funk, joy, tenderness. And now this brand new stuff... Thousand flavours on your tongue! I’m dancing and jumping on the floor, trying to grab her Hips, but every time she flies away. Simone makes us smile and cry, like real singers do.

Biografie Simone Roerade (Mrs. HiPS)
Simone Roerade zet op jonge leeftijd haar eerste muzikale stappen in de klassieke muziekwereld. Niet vreemd aangezien haar vader als hoornist en haar oom als hoboïst speelden bij het Haagse Residentieorkest. Op haar 15e legt Simone de hobo opzij en kiest zij voor een eigen weg. Zingen en liedjes schrijven. Popmuziek maken. Dat is wat ze wil. Ze start haar eerste band en na de middelbare school gaat ze direct door naar het conservatorium in Rotterdam. Niet alleen door haar indrukwekkende stem en de gave om pakkende liedjes te schrijven maar zeker ook door haar podiumpresentatie weet ze zowel docenten als medestudenten te raken. Tijdens het afstuderen (cum laude) speelt ze met de funk/soulband HiPS, een samenwerking van studenten van het conservatorium. In korte tijd bouwt de band een enorme live reputatie op. Vooral de wekelijkse (nacht)sessies in café Tudor in Rotterdam, zijn een begrip. Ook speelt HiPS veel in het buitenland. Zo behoren Zwitserland, Frankrijk, Duitsland en Spanje tot de landen waar ze regelmatig touren.
Vlak voor haar eindexamen wordt Simone door Candy Dulfer ‘ontdekt’ en gaat ze met Candy en haar band “Funky Stuff” op tournee door de hele wereld. (Japan, Amerika en Europa). Direct na deze tournee pakt Simone de draad weer op met haar band HiPS. De band maakt twee Cd’s (“Hips First” en “The Bigger The Better”) en scoort in Spanje een nummer 1 hit met ‘Talk To You’ (1997).
Tussendoor gaat Simone nog met de Zweedse zanger/gitarist Paulo Mendonca op tournee naar Japan. Bovendien wordt ze inmiddels veel gevraagd voor studiowerk (backing vocals voor o.a. Golden Earring, Kane).
Na zeven vette jaren HiPS worden, net als Simone, ook de andere HiPS leden ‘ontdekt’ en krijgen ze aanbiedingen van acts zoals Trijntje Oosterhuis, Kane, Marco Borsato en Anouk. Het blijkt moeilijk om de band bij elkaar te houden. In 1999 wordt dan ook besloten om uit elkaar te gaan.
Simone is toe aan wat rust en trekt zich terug naar de achtergrond. Ze tourt dan als backingvocalist met o.a. Rob de Nijs en Ruth Jacott door Nederland en België.
Als docent keert Simone terug aan het conservatorium in Rotterdam. Op de Pop Academy geeft ze haar ervaring door aan de nieuwe generatie zangers en zangeressen.
Na een aantal relatief rustige jaren komt in 2005 haar eerst solo CD “She Said” uit. Op deze CD horen we vooral de singer/songwriter kant van Simone. De CD krijgt lovende recensies (o.a. in OOR) maar toch blijft het verlangen naar de oude HiPS sound bij Simone en haar fans.
Het kan dan ook niet uitblijven. Onder de naam “Mrs HiPS” komt in april 2011 de CD “Give Me More” uit. De energie en sound van de ‘oude’ HiPS wordt nieuw leven ingeblazen en staat als nooit tevoren. Net als haar (nieuwe) band klinkt Simone weer als vanouds: een mix van een “gelukkige Janis Joplin”, een “blanke Chaka Khan” gecombineerd met de uitbundige presentatie van Bette Midler.

Biography Simone Roerade ( Mrs.Hips)
Simone was born on the 5th of June 1969 in The Hague, Holland.
When she was just a little kid she played the piano and oboe and she wrote her own music.
At the age of 15 she added her voice to her music and she started to write real pop-songs. She selled her oboe and started her first band. From that moment on she knew she wanted to be a singer! A few bands and years later, she decided to go to the conservatory of Rotterdam to study jazz and popmusic. It was in 1992 she met on that same school a lot of other musicians. A bass-player, Aram Kersbergen had to arrange a session in a club in Rotterdam. He asked Leendert Haaksma( guitar ), Jeroen Rietbergen ( keyboards) Hans Greeve ( drums ) and Simone to play with him. From the first note they played together it was clear……this is gonna be a real groovy band!
The owner of the club asked them to play every Tuesday night and the band HIPS was born. They started to play covers from Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder and many others, but after a while Simone started to write songs in a funky style, which she never tried before. The club in Rotterdam became a very hot place and several musicians came to the show, to check out the new talented cats. One day saxophone-player Candy Dulfer heard about Simone’s incredible voice and she ask her to go with her on tour . It was a hard decision for her because HIPS was getting locally famous, but for her own experience she took Candy’s offer and she toured through Europe, America and Japan which was great!
After the tour was finished, she ask trumpet-player Iwan van Hetten from Candy’s band to join HIPS and they recorded their first CD “ Hips First”.Almost all the songs were written by Simone. Hips toured around the country and in Austria , Switzerland and Germany.
In 1997 HIPS recorded their second album “the bigger the better”but in the meantime Hips First was released in Spain as well. In Spain the song “talk to you “became a # 1 hit at the Spanish charts! So Simone and her guys had to go to Spain….
Hips played a lot on festivals and Simone also toured in the summertime with Paulo Mendonca, a great rock singer/guitarist from Sweden.
The rest of the band also played with big dutch stars so it was almost impossible to stick them together as a group. They decided to split in the spring of 1999. Simone started to teach on the pop-department of the concervatory of Rotterdam and recorded her first solo CD “she said in 2005.
Two years ago Simone asked all the members of Hips to come together for a reunion concert .
After 10 years they played like they never had stopped!
After this concert Simone decided to write new material and with her new name Mrs.Hips she will remind us of all her experiences through all these funky years!
The first CD of Mrs.Hips "give me more" will be released in april 2011!
